Baptism

It’s not about the water—it’s about your decision

It’s not about the water—it’s about your decision. What makes this moment powerful is your yes to Jesus. Baptism is all about going public with your faith. It’s a bold step of obedience that says, “I’ve decided to follow Jesus, and I’m not turning back.”

When you go under the water, you’re identifying with His death and burial—leaving the old you behind. When you come up, it’s a picture of resurrection—rising into new life, new freedom, and a new future. Baptism says three things loud and clear: I follow Jesus. My life is being transformed. And I’m part of the Freedom City family. You don’t need to have it all together—just come as you are.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I get baptized?

Baptism is a public demonstration of your faith. This act publicly declares that you have made a commitment to follow Christ. It is an outward expression of the inward change that occurs when you accept Christ as your savior. It is the next step after salvation and is considered to be foundational in the life of a believer.

Lastly, it is an act of obedience to the directive given to us by Jesus. Jesus himself was baptized. Although he was perfect and without sin He humbled himself as an act of obedience thus giving us an example we can follow. Matthew 28:18-20 “Then Jesus came close to them and said, “All the authority of the universe has been given to me. Now go in my authority and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And teach them to faithfully follow all that I have commanded you. And never forget that I am with you every day, even to the completion of this age. ”

What is the significance of baptism?

Baptism is symbolic in several ways. It is a picture of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection as well as your new life as a Christ follower. As we go under the water the old life is left behind and as we come up, we walk in the new life Christ has given us.

Colossians 2:12-14: “Going under the water was a burial of your old life; coming up out of it was a resurrection, God raising you from the dead as he did Christ. When you were stuck in your old sin-dead life, you were incapable of responding to God. God brought you alive – right along with Christ! Think of it! All sins forgiven, the slate wiped clean, that old arrest warrant canceled and nailed to Christ’s cross.”
